Ian Lendler
Creative Director, Children’s book
I am a multiple award-winning writer of picture books, non-fiction (adult and middle-grade), and graphic novels. I sold my first book at age 21, and have been working as a professional writer ever since. Over the course of my now 25-year career (which makes me feel old typing that), I have worked in every capacity of the writing life. I have been a copy editor, magazine editor, freelance journalist, publishing assistant (Harper Collins), as well as writing for commercials, TV, and film (solo projects as well as a script doctor).
What I look for most in any project is story. While I specialize in children's literature, I am always looking for narrative non-fiction and adult fiction (genre and literary) that elevates story, character, and the narrative structure that supports both of those. When these three things work together is when a project truly begins to sing, whether it's a picture book or national award-winning non-fiction. Our agency values the importance of working closely with clients to sharpen the theme and story to make that magic happen.
I graduated in 1996 from Columbia University where I majored in screenwriting.
